On September 23, 2022, Moon Fever released their first single, followed by a series of seven more killer tracks. Debuting on the Active Rock chart with Getting Loud. With countless live shows, including a spectacular EU tour, the anticipation has been building. Now, after 875 days since the first drop, they're finally releasing their debut album, "Forever Sleep." We're huge fans of Moon Fever and had the incredible opportunity to sit down with them to discuss their new album.
875 Days!!! It was a long wait, but totally worth it. What an amazing album guys!!!
How does it feel to finally release this debut album?
It feels like taking a weight off your shoulders - you spend all this time writing, working and re-writing, it’s easy to forget there’s an actual product at the end of the rainbow.
An amazing full album with 11 songs. What can you tell us about songs that are new on this album: Taking Cover, Vain and TV Skin?
Well, they’re new to you, old for us. Pretty sure they were all tracked and wrapped nearly three years ago. We’ve just been waiting for the record to be finished to get them out. Kinda weird that all three of those songs we wrote together in our rehearsal space, and none of them took very long to come together.
Are there any tracks on the album that hold special meaning for anyone?
TRISTON: Forever Sleep. It’s the first track I heard when the opportunity to join this band was brought to my attention (shout out to William Andrews). This song was the reason I fell in love with this band and believed in the project. The rest is history.
And we're more than happy you guys found each other!!!
So how do you guys start writing. Do you collaborate on songwriting, or does each band member bring their own ideas?
There’s all manners, not one thing specifically stands out. Sometimes we’ll baby a riff in the studio, others on the fly in the room. We keep a folder of song ideas and lyrics that we’ll hear in the van or when someone says something memorable. Everyone in this project has good ideas and they only get nixed if you can prove something better makes sense.
Are there any artists or bands that have influenced your songwriting style?
We listen to everything from Riff Raff to Dead Moon. But real inspiration comes from your band mates. You can spend weeks purposefully trying to write a song that sounds like someone else just to have it end up sounding like shit. Or rely on each other’s skill sets to create something for your own project, in your own voice, in your own time. We’ve had more success inspiring each other, or with the help of a few dedicated producers.
What message do you hope listeners take away from this album?
Hopefully we’ve written it well enough that you can decipher your own conclusions and meanings. It’s a soundtrack for whatever you want it to be, whether you’re at a show or blasting it in your car, it’s for you. It’s all the way out of our hands now.
If it inspires you to do anything, even track a couple songs of your own, that’s a win for us in our book.
I personally can’t think of a better way to start 2025! With this album, you've set a high bar for the rest of the year. Can you give us a little hint about what else we can expect from you?
You can for sure expect us to be having a couple beers even though there’s a lot of work to do. We already have about 3 songs finished for the sophomore release, which maybe comes out this year? Who knows? Not us. Time is always the factor. There’s a couple shows scattered out and we’ll be on tour for sure. But in this instant, we’re focusing on new material and trying to write the best songs possible.
The debut album is just fresh out of the oven and you're already talking about new songs and new releases, I say cheers to that! Keep 'm coming guys!! And thank you so much for your time.
